Review: The Lovely Bones

The Lovely Bones
The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Lovely Bones is a wonderful story about a fourteen year old Susie Salmon who had been raped and murdered by a neighbor. Her death brought heartaches and suffering. But despite all of the painful memories that have been and will always be there because of Susie's death, it's beautiful how her death also brought people back together. Death is and will always be depressing part of life. But it will depend on how people will take it. How they'll move past it, if possible. Because we can't really run away from it. What we can do is savor the memories we have of the departed and cherish them and live.

"These were the lovely bones that had grown around my absence: the connections -- sometimes tenuous, sometimes made at great cost. And I began to see things in a way that let me hold the world without me in it. The events that my death wrought were merely the bones of a body that would become whole at some unpredictable time in the future."
