Review: Insurgent

Insurgent
Insurgent by Veronica Roth

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"Sometimes personality has nothing to do with a person’s choice.."

This quote from Insurgent pretty much sums up the whole story. The unpredictability of some of the characters every move and choice, especially Tris.

I actually started reading Insurgent early last year after getting hooked to Divergent but I grew tired of the plot. I found it a bit dragging which made me decide to put it on hold. But now that the movie adaptation came out and because I am the "Read first before watching" type of person, I decided to give it another trt and finally finish the book for good.

This book did not disappoint, although it didn't exceed my expectations. I liked Divergent more but I still hope that Allegiant will be better than Insurgent.

Oh! And what perfect way to end a book with a super cliffhanger that will OBLIGE you to read Allegiant! Well played, Veronica. Well played.

Pressure

Pressure can sometimes motivate you but often times it can break you.

I feel pressured. About loads of things.

I think my head is floating. Empty but full at the same time.

Do you ever?

Do you ever just want to leave? Pack up and go away. Leave the troubles and start fresh. Anew. Somewhere far.

Do you ever just want to give up? Surrender. Admit to yourself that you are weak. That you're weakness is far stronger than your own strengths.

Do you ever just want to scream? And cry until your eyes and heart can't take no more? 'Til your physically and mentally tired. And everything isn't right.

Do you ever? Do you? I do.

But then a person comes and stays. Becomes your pillar of strength. Your inspiration. Your everything.

The person who fills your empty holes.
Who accepts very well your flaws and imperfections.
Who fits perfectly.
Who gives you the sun even if you just want a candle in the dark.
Who gives you love when you don't think you even deserve it.

That person who makes you stay and not leave. Fight and not give up. Smile and laugh instead of crying.

You know who you are.

Review: Choke

Choke
Choke by Chuck Palahniuk

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Choke is what I really expected it would be. Disturbing. Fucked up. Made me think "What the heck did I just read." loads of times. But that's the truth of the book. It tackles real-life situations. Things that happen to real people in our real and messed up world. It just so happened that Chuck wrote it in a disturbing, raw and oddly entertaining way. I liked it.

"We can spend our lives letting the world tell us who we are. Sane or insane. Heroes or victims. Letting history tell us how good or bad we are. Letting our past decide our future. Or we can decide for ourselves. And maybe it's our job to invent something better."

Review: The Book of (Holiday) Awesome

The Book of (Holiday) Awesome
The Book of (Holiday) Awesome by Neil Pasricha

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

"As you struggked you empathized, as you slipped you understood, as you worked you earned...
...as you looked you learned
...as you dared you grew
...and as you jumped you flew.
Your dreams are still focusing and your passion is growing. Your energy is still bubbling and your story keeps going."
